The President of the United States, Donald Trump, awarded Tiger Woods with the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation's highest civilian honor. In his remarks, President Trump praised Tiger as a "global symbol of American excellence." Trump praised Tiger’s victory at Donald Trump, awarded Tiger Woods with the Presidential Medal of Freedom Augusta National, joining the many others who view it as one golf ’s greatest comebacks following injuries and personal problems that looked to have permanently derailed his career. "Congratulations again on your amazing comeback and your amazing life and for giving sports fans everywhere a lifetime of memories," Trump said, as quoted by CNN.
“This has been an unbelievable experience,” said Tiger, who received a standing ovation upon the beginning of his remarks. Tiger thanked those who have supported him over the years, by saying, “You've seen the good and bad, the highs and lows, and I would not be in this position without all of your help.” The Medal of Freedom recognizes individuals who have made “an especially meritorious contribution to the security or national interests of the United States, world peace, cultural, or other significant public or private endeavors”. The three previous golfers to receive the honor are Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, and Charlie Sifford.
