The closing ceremony at Pantai Indah Kapuk Course was an exciting moment for all the guests, but especially for the hosts. Kentaro Nanayama has provided Indonesia a glimmer of hope for the future. The promising Indonesian junior claimed the Boys Best Gross title at the ATI Ciputra Golfpreneur Junior World 2019 presented by AKI that sanctioned by Junior Tournament Golf of Asia.
The 16-year-old teenager, who played in the Boys A Division (Age 15-18), wrapped up the three-day event with a total of 10-under-par (206). Securing victory by eight-shots, Kentaro didn’t just win the title, he also recorded the best total score for the tournament in Junior Golf Tour of Asia (JGTA) history. With this win, he finishes in the Top 5 on the Junior Order of Merit, punching his ticket with Fully Exempt AJGA PBE Status to play on the AJGA circuit for the next two years.
The JGTA Bogor Junior Championship winner and Jakarta local dusted the field in the final round, finishing with scores of 67-67-72, for a tournament total of 10-under-par 206, the best tournament total score in JGTA history. Kentaro calls Damai Indah Golf ’s PIK course his home and shooting a score of 67 (twice) is his course record. In addition to his win, T Kentaro receives an exemption into the Asian Development Tour’s Ciputra Golfpreneur Tournament presented by Panasonic, taking place in August at Damai Indah Golf ’s BSD Course.
"I did target to win. However, I didn't think I could make that score," Kentaro said. "I am quite happy with this victory, especially ahead of my participation in the summer golf event in the US later. I hope that I can bring this good momentum there, and can give good results there. " Kentaro is the first Indonesian junior to win the Junior World since 2012. Joshua Andrew Wirawan was the last Indonesian player to win the individual category back in 2012.
