As the first Indonesian to win on the Asian Tour, Rory has spread an ambitious spirit to other Indonesian players who hope they can achieve the same as him. The BNI Indonesian Masters supported by Bank BRI and MedcoEnergi could be the stage for Rory to achieve his best result yet.
Since winning his first Asian Tour event, the 31-year-old is having a revival of his selfconfidence and is taking the opportunity of the Indonesian Masters seriously. If he can perform well at the event in December it will open up a path to a higher level including playing at the 2020 Olympics.
Rory’s best result at previous Indonesian Masters was 11th place in 2011, while his lowest score at Royale Jakarta Golf Club is 11-under-par (277) at the Asian Development Tour’s OB Golf Invitational last May.
Along with Rory, Danny Masrin and George Gandranata also shot 11-under at the tournament. Danny will be upping his effort in an attempt to break into the top 15 at the Indonesian Masters. His result at the OB Golf Invitational will help give him confidence that he can secure a good final result this December.
The US$750,000 tournament will be a proving ground for Indonesia’s top amateur’s Naraajie E.R. Putra. The 19-year-old almost created history at the Indonesia Open last August by coming close to victory. Now, the young gun has turned his attention to the BNI Indonesian Masters supported by Bank BRI and MedcoEnergi to prove he can clinch the trophy.
As the only Indonesian amateur to make the cut at the event, Naraajie will be ambitious to engrave his name in history. His motivation always seems to double when he plays in professional competitions, December will determine if that’s enough.
